Divada (Lamp) Dance

Gujarati Folk Dance

Divada (Lamp) Dance is a community folk dance from Gujarat, India. Traditionally, the performers hold a terra-cotta lit lamp (divada) in each hand while performing the dance in circular formation.

The dance is accompanied by traditional music ensemble consisting of singers, melody instruments flute and harmonium and rhythm instruments kutchhi dhol and jaanj (finger cymbals).

We use battery operated tea-lights in lieu of terra-cotta lamps for safety reasons. This allows audience of all ages to participate in this wonderful community dance.
